i am a self taught photographer. i have always had an interest in photography, but besides one high school yearbook class, had no real training or any experience besides all the little point and shoot cameras i had growing up. after a failed attempt at graduate school, i decided to trade in the life i had for a SLR, a backpack full of film and a plane ticket to london. i spent a couple of months wandering around europe with no agenda except to take as many photographs as i could, learn as much as i could, and not develop a single roll until i got back home (i didn’t want to stop the momentum of the experience should i find out my photos sucked!). turns out i enjoyed myself hugely, experienced my changing environments in a different way through the lens, and ended up taking some pretty good photos in the process. most of the time, i am as surprised as anyone at what i’ve managed to capture on film. over the years of my photography, i find that i am drawn to buildings and nature more often than people, that i love shooting with film while going digital has been nothing but convenience for me, and that i usually prefer to take pictures of things that move me in the moment rather than work on assignment. perhaps that says as much about my photography skills as it does about the kind of person i am!

great photography, rally like the door and the person leaning
Nice photos. :) Although, I was hoping to see more images of Bellingham. I lived there for 20 years and now I am in Seattle. I missed the town a lot more than I thought I would. :(
emily, thanks for your kind words! your hopes of seeing more photos of Bellingham gives me a good excuse to go on the prowl for good shots around this town. It’s always good to push yourself to see your surroundings in new ways. thanks for the inspriation…hopefully i’ll have more to post soon. :)
